Are you stuck trying to pick the best Melbourne wedding photographer to fit your wedding’s vibe? Dreamy, fun, romantic… There are so many styles to choose from! Lucky for you, I’ve rounded up some of my #fave wedding photographers in Melbourne so you can find your perfect match!
You’ve picked your bountiful bouquet. Chosen your champers. Even selected the *sweetest* spot by the sunset to walk down the aisle. And now you want every magical moment captured! There’s so much to think about. So, how do you choose the right Melbourne wedding photographer?
Let’s take a gander at my list of hand-plucked reputable photographers!
First things first, lovers…
Whether you’re looking for an editorial aesthetic, earthy tones or a crisp collection of wedding photographs. There are three simple things to consider when looking for the right wedding photographer in Melbourne.
The power of the three Rs.
That last one’s important here (don’t worry, I’ve ticked the first two for this list!).
Here’s the insider scoop!
The vibe: “Unique, quirky and funny would definitely be some words to describe me. And who doesn’t love a good wedding? It beats capturing a funeral!”
Shutter style: “A little on the quirky side.”
Captures couples who: “Have personality plus! More is certainly more in my books.
“A lot of my couples are square pegs who don’t quite fit the round hole. They are looking for someone to capture their joy and personality in fun and unique ways.”
Process from pixels to picture frames: “To help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera, I suggest scheduling an engagement session prior to your wedding day. This will give us the chance to get to know each other better, plus you’ll have even more beautiful photos for your walls!
“I also understand that posing for photos can be daunting. But trust me, I will be there every step of the way, guiding you and making you feel at ease. The most important thing to remember is to just be yourself.”
Avoid macro mistakes by: “Playing a game of ‘the vibe is right’. Your photographer is gonna be your third wheel! For you to feel comfortable in front of the camera, you want that person to feel like a mate that rocked up to hype you.”
Prime picture-perfect moments: “The in-between moments are the most important. Sometimes we get caught up in the “instaworthy” stuff. Yet, the photos valued most are the interactions with family and friends. Looking for those in-between moments amongst the glitter is super important.
“It’s one of the happiest days in a person’s life! That electricity is something I wish I could bottle up and take home, each and every time.”
The vibe: “I’ve been described as a glass-half-full person, someone who loves to have a good time, is kind, empathetic, and honestly a bit of a dork.”
Shutter style: “Candid and playful, yet warm and romantic.”
Captures couples who: “Are fun-loving romantics! They enjoy fashion and styling, but their main concern is marrying the person they love.”
Process from pixels to picture frames: “I really get to know my couples. See pics of their pets, hear about their bucks/hens, help with timelines and recommend vendors, whatever they need. Then on the wedding day, I’ll play roles beyond their photographer, including witness and, of course, the hype girl.”
“I’m 100% committed to capturing, editing and delivering their images so they tell one heck of a story.”
Avoid macro mistakes by: “Most people don’t realise that you’ll spend most of your wedding day with your photographer! That’s why it’s important to choose someone you feel comfortable with. Someone that has the same vision as you, and has your best interests in mind.”
Prime picture-perfect moments: “Obviously there are the standout moments. The “must have” shots like the first kiss, walking down the aisle, etc. My favourites are the personal moments that allow you to relive the emotion of the day. The sneaky glances, the hand holding, the post-ceremony hugs fuelled with love. The things that if you aren’t paying attention, might go by unnoticed.”
The vibe: “It’s the ultimate party – love, laughs, and a couple of tears (the good kind). It doesn’t get better than capturing that magic!”
Shutter style: “I’d describe my style as honest.”
“When you look back at your photos, you want to see yourselves looking stoked and living your best lives. Not looking or feeling a bit awks.”
Captures couples who: “It doesn’t matter if you’re in a park with only 5 of nearest and dearest, or at a fancy winery with 120 of your loved ones. As long as you put your full trust in me, that means so much more.”
Process from pixels to picture frames: “Let’s get a mutual following happening over on Instagram. My DMs are open for banter and memes at all times! That way we can keep up with each other, so it’s not like I’m a stranger showing up to your wedding.”
“I’ll touch base a few times to check in, pop together my photography timeline, and get us on track to have a rad day. Then after all of the hard work is done, you get to have the best freakin’ wedding ever!”
Avoid macro mistakes by: “If you value photography (not just the photos themselves, but your experience with who’s taking them), start to see it as an ‘investment’ more than just another wedding expense.”
Prime picture-perfect moments: “When your witnesses are signing the marriage documents, and for the first time, the couple feels like they’re not being watched (sorry guys, but I am!) – that’s a really sweet moment that always gets me.
“Another underrated moment is after the first dance when everyone is invited to join the dance floor, the couple is in their little bubble together while everyone dances around them (If you’ve never noticed it before, look for it at your next wedding!)”
The vibe: “Relatable, professional, and passionate about creating personalised art for my couples.”
Shutter style: “Personalised with an artistic edge, combining editorial and documentary photography with a timeless feel.”
Captures couples who: “I really don’t have favourites! But, I do love working with couples that are happy to go with the flow if things don’t quite go to plan.”
Process from pixels to picture frames: “I’m all about making things as easy as possible. I provide support and guidance within my expertise, and work with you (and your suppliers!) to make sure we are all over the plan for the day.”
“One of my favourite things to do is make a vision board so I can get a visual representation of what you’re after. Because at this point “candid and fun” can mean anything!”
Avoid macro mistakes by: “Finding someone whose work you truly connect with, and who you feel comfortable and confident with throughout the process. Without that combination, the experience on the day or the end result may not meet expectations.”
Prime picture-perfect moments: “The raw, unfiltered emotions between the couple and their guests. It’s not just about the couple getting married! It’s also a Mum seeing her child walk down the aisle, or a Nan seeing their first grandchild exchange vows. So many people, so many stories, so many connections. I love capturing it all.”
